Species Spotlight: Tigers
Nov 12th, 2009 by wwftravel
Recognized throughout the world for its undeniable beauty and power, the tiger faces an uncertain future. An estimated 4,000 likely remain in the wild, most in isolated pockets spread across increasingly fragmented forests. WWF and our conservation partners are working to protect the tiger by establishing and managing protected areas, reducing poaching, and working with local communities to support tiger conservation.
Habitat: Tigers live across the continent of Asia.
Diet: They prefer to eat ungulates or hoofed animals (like deer and wild pigs).
Threats: There are many threats, including habitat loss, growing human populations, illegal hunting of tigers and their prey, and expanded trade in tiger parts.
Interesting Fact: Tigers are able to eat up to 80 pounds of meat at one time; however, they are successful in roughly one out of every 20 attacks.
