Heading to FijiWe're off to Fiji to conduct the first field surveys for a new WWF project to look at ways to help coastal ecosystems and communities respond to climate change. Funded by the Global Environment Facility through the United Nations Environment Program, this project is taking place in three places simultaneously--Fiji, Tanzania and Cameroon.
To get to Fiji from Washington, DC you fly through Los Angeles or Honolulu. On the way here we never saw February 23rd, but on the way back we'll get to have March 3rd twice. Coming along on the trip are Jennie Hoffman, WWF senior program officer for climate change, my husband Eric, a fellow researcher, and our son Ari.
Along for the ride this week are Chris Joyce and Jessica Goldstein of National Public Radio Expeditions. They are doing a year-long series on climate change and have come to see what we are up to.
In Fiji we will meet up with our WWF Fiji and South Pacific Program researchers and community liaisons. They include Monifa Fiu (the Mangrove/Coral lead researcher in Fiji), Penina Namata (our community liaison and translator), Teri (a graduate students from the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji ), Rosila (a WWF Fiji intern) and Kathrine (the communications manager from WWF Fiji).
