Dr. Jim Bednarz, professor of Wildlife Ecology at Arkansas State University, tells KAIT-TV in Joneboro, Arkansas, that as climate changes, fewer ducks are wintering in the southern reaches of their flyway.
"This seems to be highly related to increasing temperatures," Bednarz says. "The ducks are shifting to the north. So there are fewer ducks wintering in places like Arkansas and Mississippi.”
This means economic trouble for Arkansas as fewer hunters are attracted to the state. “In literally a few decades we could lose tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars," Bednarz told KAIT-TV.
