The 72 Hour Push: Call Your Senators about Energy & Climate Legislation

A coalition of groups including WWF, Repower America, Catholics United, Alliance for Climate Protection, Green Faith, Sierra Club, Southern Energy Network, 1Sky and the League of Woman Voters—just to name a few—are asking their constituents to call their Senators this week (between Tuesday, March 2nd and Thursday, March 4th) and demand action on climate and energy legislation. The specific request is asking Senators to pass a climate and energy bill this spring that will protect their state from dangerous climate change, create new clean energy jobs and make America less dependent on foreign oil.

“72 Hours for Clean American Power” is the big event generated by Clean Energy Works—a coalition of 60 grassroots organizations, including those mentioned above, representing more than 12 million Americans. Senate leaders John Kerry, Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman will likely be releasing a climate and energy bill in the next two weeks which must garner the support of 60 Senators. The push is geared toward rallying support for this bill and letting Senators know this issue is very important to their constituents.

For information about how you can call your Senators and encourage them to pass a climate & energy bill, see below.

Calling your Senators only takes a minute. WWF has provided a hotline to direct you to your Senators and guide you through the process.

1-800-217-7379

The 1-800 number will patch you through to your Senator’s office. A staff member will answer your call. When they greet you, please give them your name and home town. Then, tell them that you want your Senator to pass a clean energy and climate bill this spring that will protect your state from dangerous climate change, create new clean energy jobs and make America less dependent on foreign oil. If no one picks up, please leave a voicemail message on the Senator’s office answering machine that includes your name, what city you live and your zip code.

"Our political system in America is a bit like an ocean liner…neither is good at sudden changes in direction. But there are moments in time when we must act quickly and decisively. If we are to stop the climate crisis, that time is now."
